The benefits of salmon oil for dogs
You may have heard of the benefits of salmon oil for humans, but did you know that your dog can also consume it? A natural, high-quality and affordable product, it can be added to the diet of your four-legged friends, dog or cat, for their pleasure but also to provide them with numerous benefits. We'll tell you why salmon oil is the next ingredient to try in your dog's bowl!
What is salmon oil for dogs?
In addition to its many benefits for humans, salmon oil is also a big hit with the canine and feline public! Salmon oil is used as a dietary supplement for dogs to provide many benefits. Salmon oil is 100% natural and also contains fatty acids such as omega 3, 6 and 9, which are good for your dog. These are essential fatty acids that are not naturally produced by your dog, and it is therefore beneficial to give them to your dog, in combination with a healthy and balanced diet of course.
What are the benefits of salmon oil for your dog
Salmon oil provides several benefits for your pet, the main ones being
Provides healthy skin
Salmon oil for dogs provides anti-inflammatory properties that quickly soothe minor skin problems such as skin allergies and dermatitis. These properties also contribute to faster healing.
An advantage for your pet's coat
Adding a few drops of salmon oil to your dog's diet can do two things for his coat:
- Reducing hair loss: Salmon oil will strengthen your pet's coat and make it more resistant. Dog owners can breathe easier and vacuum their home less often, thanks to salmon oil!
- Make the coat shinier: Salmon oil is known to contribute to the beauty of a dog's coat. It maintains a good skin barrier and makes your pet's coat much softer.
- Strengthens the immune system
Salmon oil can be consumed by your dog all year round but is highly recommended especially in the autumn when the immune system tends to decline. It boosts the immune system by helping it to fight the bacteria and viruses that accompany the first drop in temperature.
Helps regulate stress
Salmon oil contains omega 3, which is known to control anxiety disorders by regulating adrenaline function. Salmon oil can therefore be used as part of a therapeutic programme to treat behavioural disorders in some dogs. It is recommended for pets, dogs and cats, who are anxious and stressed by nature.
Promotes appetite
If your dog is experiencing a loss of appetite, salmon oil may be just the thing to get him to eat again. Simply add a little salmon oil to your dog's daily meals to increase his appetite and help him maintain or regain his strength.
Salmon oil has other health benefits for your pet, such as slowing down the breakdown of cartilage, improving brain function (especially for foetuses and newborns), reducing the risk of cardiovascular accidents and cholesterol production.

How do you use Marly & Dan Salmon Oil in your dog's diet?
You can add salmon oil to your dog's daily diet. However, it is recommended that you follow the dosage instructions on the bottle!
If you don't want to add salmon oil to your dog's food every day, you can also add it in periodic doses. For example, it is recommended that you add salmon oil to your dog's kibble when autumn arrives. The aim will be to strengthen your dog's immune system or to help it after a series of physical efforts, for example.
In terms of quantity, here are the recommended portions of salmon oil per day and per week, depending on your dog's weight:
- For dogs weighing less than 5 kg, it is recommended to give 2.5 ml of salmon oil per day.
- For dogs weighing between 5 and 10 kg, 5 ml of salmon oil per day is recommended.
- For dogs weighing between 10 and 15 kg, 10 ml of salmon oil per day is recommended.
- For dogs that weigh more than 15 kg, it is recommended to give more than 15 ml of salmon oil per day.
These quantities are of course given as a guide and it is possible to adapt them according to the breed of your dog or according to the desired final objective, such as regaining appetite, strengthening the immune system, etc.
It is also recommended that owners of dogs with osteoarthritis consult a vet before using salmon oil in their meals.
For all other owners, remember that too much salmon oil can cause minor side effects (e.g. digestive problems). You should therefore ensure that the food you feed your pet does not already contain sufficient Omega 3.
